Starting 2025 with a Custom Dog Ramp
Well we are off to the races. We got our first custom furniture project of the year with a request for a dog ramp. The customer has several older puppies that struggle to get up on the bed and wanted a custom ramp that was nicer than anything they found online or elsewhere locally. We jumped at the chance.
We exchanged emails sending them a quick Sketchup drawing and a list of questions we would want to ask, then had a quick call to review the dimensions and features they were looking for.
Initial drawing.
We got the changes from that initial call such as change the orientation, add a shelf in the pedestal and it needs rubber feet because it will be on a wood floor. From there we took our ideas to shop and built a prototype out of scraps to show our design at 100% scale to bring to the customer to see the piece in the room for the customer to get the final dimensions and any changes to the design they wanted to see.
The prototype was a huge success. We delivered the prototype to the customer, made notes on changes and adjustments they wanted and we were off to the races. The final product was a huge success and have give us the confidence to take on more larger projects like this dog ramp. The final project was made from White Oak and stained in dark walnut. The ramp surface is a ribbed rubber runner with oak cleats accented with brass screws. The customer was very happy with the end result. We would love to build something for you. Let us know when you are ready to start.
